Knit Your First Sweater

150.00 175.00

Have you mastered basic knitting and purling and really wish you could knit a sweater? Guess what, you can. Really. It’s not as scary as you think. And, with careful planning and attention to details, you won’t get that ill-fitting, misshapen, too embarrassing to wear hand-knit sweater everyone dreads.

In this multi part workshop you will learn how to knit an attractive sweater from start to finish over the course of four meetings (you’ll need to do some homework knitting between sessions, but the meetings are spread out to help allow time for knitting). And we keep the the class size maxed at 6 so you get plenty of attention and have time to ask all your questions.

You can choose between several patterns we think are cute and appropriate for beginner sweater knitters (clear instructions and basic construction techniques). cast on and start working a top down sweater in the round. Each session we’ll trouble shoot any issues encountered with your homework, and walk you through the next stage of the sweater’s construction so you don’t have to tackle these new skills alone.

We’ll cover the following skills in class:

  • Reading a knitting pattern

  • Sweater terminology and techniques

  • The basics of sweater construction and raglan shaping

  • Determining basic fit from the pattern

  • Each step of knitting a sweater in the round

This workshop will NOT address fit adjustments outside those offered in your pattern. If you’re not certain, stop by or give us a call/email before you register.

Requirements: You must know how to knit, purl, cast-on, and bind-off. This is not a beginner knitting class. You should have some experience with increasing and decreasing, but do not need to be an expert.

Materials: We recommend the Flax and Harvest sweaters by Tin Can Knits, which we provide in class. If you prefer a different pattern, we can help you find it and work through it.
