Fremont Tote Workshop

When: Saturday, July 6, 11 am - 4 pm

Are you new to sewing and want to advance your newfound skills or maybe you want to try working with heavier duty materials and leather? Want to learn how to follow a pattern, use waxed canvas, add leather accents, and fancy metal hardware? This is your workshop. We recommend that you have at least one sewing class or equivalent experience before taking this class.

In this sewing workshop, you’ll learn about the basics of using a home sewing machine to make an industrially designed, highly stylish tote style bag/purse. We will briefly review threading the needle, winding a bobbin, what each part does, and how to troubleshoot, as well as how sewing with these materials changes your regular sewing approach. However, this class goes beyond our basic beginner sewing class to help you make something a step up from your first project. (We carry several Klum House kits in the shop if you’re looking for another project!)

Skills You Will Learn / Practice:

  • Sewing multiple layers of heavy duty fabric

  • Attaching hardware & straps

  • Sewing zippers

  • Sewing a lining

  • Boxing corners

  • How to set rivets properly
