Have you been wanting to try sewing with knit fabric on your home sewing machine? Want to make a cute tee with your choice of fabric? Join our knit shirt class and learn how to stitch up a stylish three quarter sleeve t-shirt using 100 Acts of Sewing Pattern Shirt No. 2 and the basic capabilities of a home sewing machine (no fancy equipment or needles needed for this one).
This four hour workshop requires advanced beginner to intermediate sewing skills, but is a perfect first knit project. This means previous sewing machine experience is required and you should be comfortable threading the machine, sewing a straight line, and maintaining a seam allowance. You don’t have to be an expert, but you do need to be comfortable guiding the fabric and working gently with knits so you end up with an attractive garment.
In this workshop you'll learn:
Garment sewing terminology
How to use a commercial pattern, including how to measure your body and determine proper sizing.
How to choose and prepare fabrics
How to use all the tools, cutting, pinning, ironing
How to sew knit fabric
How to sew a hem and insert a neckband
How to make simple modifications to lengthen or shorten the body or sleeves.
I'll walk you through each step of the pattern and stitching up your tank.
You'll leave with an awesome new shirt made by you, and the knowledge and confidence to tackle new garment sewing projects on your own.
Price: Includes hands-on instruction, opportunity for lots of questions, all use of sewing machines, tools, thread, etc.
You will need to purchase the pattern and approximately 1.5 to 2 yards yards of KNIT fabric for the class (students receive a 10% discount on the purchase of any supplies for the class). Call, email, or stop by the shop with questions about choosing fabric. Please purchase fabric in advance so you can pre-wash for shrinkage.
