Want to learn how to sew your own clothes using a commercial pattern? Join us for this 5 hour intensive workshop and sew the awesome Metamorphic Dress, by Sew Liberated, that has taken the Indie sewing world by storm. This is a beginner level garment sewing workshop. This means previous sewing machine experience is required, but you don’t have to be an expert. We'll review the sewing machine at the beginning to cover the bits relevant to this workshop, but you should be comfortable threading the machine and sewing a straight line.
In this workshop you'll learn:
Garment sewing terminology
How to use a commercial pattern, including how to measure your body and determine proper sizing.
How to choose and prepare fabrics
How to use all the tools, cutting, pinning, ironing
How to sew a hem
How to sew side seam and patch pockets
We'll walk you through each step of the pattern and stitching up your dress.
You'll leave with an awesome new dress made by you, and the knowledge and confidence to tackle new garment sewing projects on your own. Not only do you make a dress in this workshop, but you actually make two, as this pattern is for a reversible dress!
Price: Includes the pattern, and hands-on instruction, opportunity for lots of questions, all use of tools, thread, etc. You will need to purchase approximately 5 yards of fabric for the class (students receive a 10% discount on the purchase of any supplies for the class). We recommend making your fabric purchase in advance so you can prewash and iron your fabric (to avoid shrinkage after you spend so much time stitching it up).
For 44” wide fabric, you’ll need 2.5 yards for the top layer and 2 5/8 yards for the under layer.
For 54” wide fabric, you’ll need 2 1/8 yards for the top layer and 2 1/4 yards for the under layer.
Choose a fabric with a nice drape, such as rayon, silk, lightweight cottons and linens. The heavier the fabric, the more structured the dress will hang.
