When: Sunday, July 8 & 15, 2 - 5 pm
Join local ceramics artist, Asya Palatova of Gleena Ceramics, to learn how to make gorgeous glazed pinch pots. In this two session workshop, you’ll learn basic clay techniques and create attractive, functional vessels with clay.
In the first session, you’ll learn basic clay techniques in creating small functional vessels to create 5-10 pinch pots/bowls to use as snack bowls, cups, or pots for plants. We will be working with a food-safe high fire clay. Pieces will be bisque fired to get them ready to glaze at the next session.
At the second session, you will learn how to glaze, and then apply your glaze. Your pieces will then be fired at 2300 F to form a food-safe, dishwasher-safe glaze.
All tools and materials, and glaze materials are provided and included in the workshop fee. No previous clay experience necessary.
Asya Palatova began working with clay while studying graphic design as an undergraduate at University of Cincinnati. The love affair with clay compelled Asya to build ceramic sculptures on her kitchen table while working as a graphic designer in New York City. The kitchen-built sculptures got Asya into the graduate program at Rhode Island School of Design. After earning an MFA with a ceramic concentration, Asya created Gleena, a porcelain tableware line. Asya now has a studio and a small shop in Cleveland Heights, OH, called Gleena Ceramics.
