Gift Guide for Sewists

Shopping for someone in your life who sews? Or maybe you love sewing and want to give your family and friends a few gentle hints. Here’s our list of favorite gift ideas for these special makers this season.

1. FABRIC

You can’t really sew without fabric! You could add something special to their stash, like a yard of fabric you think they’ll love. Or maybe a little collection of fat quarters (a size of fabric that makes everyone who sews smile). Perhaps they have a big project in mind, like a quilt. We can help you pick things, but it’s also ok to ask them some questions. If you love surprises, do some recon and find out if they have a favorite designer, color scheme, or style.

2. Give Them Fun and Pretty Accessories

There are lots of little tools sewists use on a regular basis, like rulers, needles, thread, seam rippers, and scissors. We even have cute cups, earrings, and pins celebrating our love for sewing. These little extras are perfect stocking stuffers. Put together a fun gift package with a cup or mug!

3. Help Them Learn To Sew

We teach classes for beginner and intermediate sewing. Sign them up for a class, or give them a gift certificate with instructions that you hope they’ll use it to learn some new sewing skills. Maybe they learned awhile back, but feel unsure of their skills. We have classes for that, too. We love sewing here and want to share that love with anyone who will join us.

4. Sewing for Kids

Kids love sewing. We get so many kids in the shop looking to learn to sew or find supplies to work on a project. Kids would love a little specially made sewing kit or bundle. We have fabric, thread, needles, and project ideas to spark their imagination and make your shopping customized and special for your little person.

5. Keep it simple with a gift certificate.

These are great if you want to give the gift of an experience, but don’t know when someone is available or which workshop they want to take. Sometimes sewists do want to try other crafts. Or maybe they’re super picky and would prefer to choose their own fabric or tools. This gift makes you look super thoughtful and clever and makes your recipient happy.

Whatever you choose, be sure to treat your maker to something fun to brighten his or her face this season.

Happy shopping and gift giving!
