Shopping for a knitter or crocheter in your life? Or maybe you’re a knitter and want to give your family and friends a few gentle hints. Here’s our list of favorite gift ideas for these special makers this season.
1. Keep it simple with a gift certificate.
These are great if you want to give the gift of an experience, but don’t know when someone is available or which workshop they want to take. Sometimes stitchers do want to try other things. Or maybe they’re super picky and would prefer to choose their own yarn. This gift makes you look super thoughtful and clever and makes your recipient happy.
2. Upgrade Their Needles & Hooks
If you have a new knitter or hooker, a nice set of needles or hooks could be just what they want. Even if someone has been knitting for awhile they may not feel they can splurge on a nice set for themselves. Make their day and give a beautiful set of Lykke needles or hooks. Or pick up individual sizes to round out their collection.
3. Give Them Fun and Pretty Accessories
There are lots of little tools knitters use on a regular basis, like rulers, row counters, stitch markers, cable needles, and tapestry needles. These little extras are perfect stocking stuffers. Our favorite of course is the leather wrist ruler bracelets (seen with the needle set above), which come in several colors.
Knitters and crocheters by their very nature love YARN! You could add something special to their stash, like a single skein of gorgeous color, or local yarn (we have both). Or maybe they would love to make a sweater with some quality yarn, but need someone to gift them that large quantity. It’s ok to ask them some questions. If you love surprises, do some recon and find out what size needles they like to work with and their approximate sweater size and we can help you find the right yarn.
5. Help Them Learn To Knit
We teach classes for beginner and intermediate knitting. Sign them up for a class, or give them a gift certificate with instructions that you hope they’ll use it to learn to knit. Maybe they learned awhile back, but feel unsure of their skills. We have classes for that, too (we call it Knitting 201). We love knitting here and want to share that love with anyone who will join us. We will be offering crochet classes in the new year, so keep those in mind, too.
